The Urban Road Infrastructure Development Agency (URIDA) has selected the agency responsible for developing the infrastructure, which will be managed by the Meerut Municipal Corporation. Estimated to cost Rs 400 million, the project will overhaul Gadh Road, which runs from Gandhi Ashram to Tejgarhi.
Officials anticipate that the road will be completed and open to traffic by June 2026. "The first project in Meerut will provide a comprehensive experience for all road users, including pedestrians, cyclists, and motorists," said Arvind Kumar Jain, Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the authority.
Plans are also underway to replicate this green road model in a dozen more cities across the state, with tenders currently being processed by 14 additional municipal corporations, including Lucknow.
In urban areas, roads wider than 45 meters are managed by the Public Works Department, while those narrower than 10 meters are funded through the Finance Commission or specific urban development schemes. The CM-GRIDS initiative will focus on roads with widths between 10 and 45 meters.
