The Greenfield Ludhiana-Rupnagar National Highway Project has been revived, marking a significant milestone after efforts by Ludhiana MP (Rajya Sabha) Sanjeev Arora. The Four/Six Lane Ludhiana-Rupnagar National Highway Project 1 has now progressed, with the full acquisition of the required land for the project. GR Infra has been appointed as the contractor for the project.
According to MP Arora, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) Project Director has confirmed the acquisition of the entire 37.7 km stretch of land, with pillars now in place. The Project Director has instructed the construction company to begin work immediately, ensuring the necessary resources, including manpower and machinery, are mobilised at the site.
In a statement, Arora highlighted his role in resolving the land acquisition challenges by engaging with protesting farmers, local authorities, and stakeholders. The project had faced delays earlier due to land acquisition issues, but Arora's efforts included meeting with the Minister of Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, and NHAI Chairman Santosh Kumar Yadav. Both officials responded positively, offering support in resolving the land dispute.
Arora also worked with the state government and district administration to settle the issue. Through multiple meetings and negotiations, he helped secure fair compensation for the farmers, thus ensuring that the project could proceed without further delays.
Recognising the importance of road infrastructure for the state’s growth, Arora emphasised the priority of completing the 37.7 km-long Ludhiana-Rupnagar National Highway. The project, part of the Bharatmala Pariyojana initiative, will connect key areas of Ludhiana and Rupnagar, and the work on Package 1, covering the stretch from the Ludhiana-Manewal junction to the Rupnagar-Bheora junction, will now be expedited.
