The highway is projected to stimulate economic activities between Kodagu, Mysuru, and Bengaluru, with the journey between Kushalanagar and Bengaluru anticipated to take only three to three and a half hours.
Sources from the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) indicated that approximately 80% of the land required for this Greenfield project is already available. Discussions with the forest department are on-going to obtain clearance for works on forest land.
This four-lane access-controlled road will begin near Paschimavahini, Srirangapatna, and end at Guddehosur, Kushalnagar, in Kodagu district. The Right of Way (RoW) is 45 metres in urban areas and 60 metres in rural areas. The foundation stone for the project was laid by Prime Minister Modi in March 2023. Initially, the project was scheduled for completion in 2026.
Mysuru MP Yaduveer Wadiyar mentioned that the construction time is divided into four packages, and the work is expected to be completed by June 2027. He also stated that the total project cost, approved by the Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, is Rs 41.29 billion.
Documents show that 82 per cent of the land for Package 2 (Guddehosur-Kushalnagar bypass to Hassan-Periyapatna Road Junction) is in possession. The same proportion of land is available for Package 5 (Ramanathapura Terakanambi Road, KR Nagar Junction in Hunsur to Yalachahalli). Additionally, 80 per cent of the 136 hectare required for Package 3 (Hemmige village, Hassan-Periyapatna Road junction to Ramanathapura-Terakanambi Road, KR Nagar junction) is in possession, while 70 per cent of the 161.8 hectare for Package 4 (Ramanathapura Terakanambi Road, KR Nagar junction to Yalachahalli) is available for the work.
