The BMC announced that it has completed the concreting of 1,385 roads, which had been dug up before the monsoon for this purpose. The concrete curing process is expected to be finished by June 2, and all barricades will be removed by June 5, allowing the roads to reopen for traffic.
In addition to completing the roadworks, officials have been instructed to ensure the removal of debris from the construction sites within the next two days.
Out of the total 1,385 roads, 30 are partially completed with mastic asphalt, while most have been finished from end to end, and some roads have been completed from junction to junction. Remaining roadworks will resume after the monsoon season.
Additional Municipal Commissioner (Projects) Abhijit Bangar directed the civic engineers to ensure that when connecting the newly completed roads to junctions, the junction areas are leveled with mastic asphalt. He also instructed them to obtain a list of authorized speed bumps from the relevant department offices and to restore them accordingly.
Bangar inspected roadworks in the eastern suburbs on the night of May 28, covering areas including Sant Kakkaya Marg in Chembur; Saki Vihar Road, Sikova Industrial Lane in Ghatkopar West; Subhash Nagar Road in Bhandup West; Surya Nagar Road in Vikhroli West; and Marathon Galaxy Road in Mulund West, among others.
He stated that the planned road concreting works are nearing completion. Initially, the deadline to complete the pouring of Pavement Quality Concrete (PQC) was set for May 20. However, due to pre-monsoon rains, the deadline was extended to May 23, which was effectively met. With PQC works finished, the final finishing works are now underway. He added that once the city experiences a brief respite from the rains, tasks such as applying thermoplastic markings, installing cat eyes, signage, traffic safety signs, and junction grids will be completed.
