The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has begun work on a Detailed Project Report to build three major roads in Wagholi, the suburb formally absorbed into PMC limits in?2023. Residents have long complained that inadequate road infrastructure and chronic jams on Nagar Road are stifling daily commutes and local commerce. By commissioning a consultant to map routes, test feasibility and calculate land requirements, the civic body hopes to complete its report within six months and fast track construction.

Because Wagholi’s new Development Plan is still awaiting approval, PMC has invoked schemes already listed in the existing Regional Plan so the work can start without bureaucratic delay. Internal road widening has already begun, but progress is slowed by encroachments and outstanding property purchase negotiations. Officials say they are tackling these hurdles in tandem with temporary traffic management measures to give motorists interim relief.

The three planned arteries, classed as high priority projects, aim to create alternate links that will ease pressure on Nagar Road and improve overall connectivity for the rapidly growing eastern corridor of Pune.
