In a key step towards easing traffic congestion and curbing air pollution, the Noida Authority has received Rs 270 million under the National Clean Air Programme (NCAP). The funding will be used to address traffic bottlenecks across major city roads, a major source of vehicular emissions.
A detailed congestion survey is currently underway, led by a consultancy firm to map frequent choke points across Noida. Based on the findings, the Noida Traffic Cell (NTC) will implement technical improvements such as redesigning junctions, streamlining left turns, eliminating unnecessary U-turns, and upgrading traffic signals.
SP Singh, General Manager of the NTC, stated the goal is to ensure seamless traffic flow and reduce pollution caused by idling vehicles. “We're concentrating on corridors with regular congestion issues—usually due to poor road design or lack of traffic flow infrastructure,” he said.
The Rs 270 million fund is part of a larger Rs 3 billion allocation under NCAP for Noida. Earlier, the Authority had received two instalments of Rs 300 million each for broader pollution mitigation. The current tranche is specifically directed at traffic decongestion measures, and a comprehensive traffic improvement plan will be launched following survey completion.
The project aligns with NCAP’s broader aim of improving urban air quality by targeting sources of particulate emissions at their root.
