Pune is set to benefit from the construction and expansion of two major national highways, as announced by Union Minister Nitin Gadkari . During the foundation stone-laying ceremony for these projects, valued at Rs 8.99 billion, Gadkari highlighted how the new highways will enhance connectivity between Pune, Satara, and Solapur. One significant route, the Dive Ghat to Hadapsar section on Palkhi Marg, aims to provide a smoother travel experience for devotees traveling to the Lord Vitthal temple. Another initiative involves building major bridges over the Mula and Mutha rivers along the Pune-Satara section of NH-48.

The 13 km Dive Ghat to Hadapsar stretch, part of the Mohol-Alandi section on Palkhi Marg, will be upgraded from two lanes to four. Gadkari noted that this widening of NH-965 will significantly alleviate congestion, ensuring a safer and more comfortable pilgrimage experience during the Palkhi Yatra. The Maharashtra State Infrastructure Development Corporation (MSIDC) will also develop resting areas for devotees along the route.

The construction of major bridges over the Mula and Mutha rivers, coupled with the widening of service roads from Narhe to Navale Bridge, is expected to ease traffic congestion in these busy areas. Gadkari emphasised that these projects will not only enhance connectivity between Pune, Satara, and Solapur but will also facilitate smoother travel for pilgrims heading to the sacred Lord Vitthal temple. Additionally, these upgrades are anticipated to promote faster travel and stimulate the local economy. Key benefits:

- Improved connectivity for devotees traveling to the Lord Vitthal temple. - A dedicated ‘Palkhi’ walkway on both sides of the national highway for a safer pilgrimage experience. - Reduced traffic congestion, resulting in time and fuel savings. - Enhanced access to markets for local farmers and producers. - Support for the participation of 900,000-1,000,000 Warkaris in the Palkhi Yatra. - Fewer accidents in Pune, Satara, and Solapur districts. - Eased traffic in Pune’s urban areas.
