The Bihar government has announced plans to upgrade the two-lane road connecting Darbhanga and Samastipur districts into a four-lane highway. The decision was made during a review meeting chaired by Darbhanga Division Commissioner Manish Kumar at the divisional assembly hall.
The National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) officials reviewed incomplete projects in the region. Commissioner Kumar emphasised the importance of adhering to deadlines while ensuring high-quality construction materials. The expansion aims to enhance transportation efficiency, reduce traffic congestion, and support the heavy goods exchange between the two districts.
Key directives
• Priority for land acquisition: Officials were instructed to expedite land acquisition processes to prevent delays. The authorities assured that comprehensive plans for land acquisition would be prepared.
• AIIMS Darbhanga access: A four-lane extension to AIIMS Darbhanga was prioritised to improve access for patients and nearby residents.
• Traffic and connectivity improvements: The upgraded road is expected to ease transportation and alleviate congestion in key areas.
Commissioner Kumar also reviewed progress on the four-lane road between Darbhanga and Amas and requested a detailed report on land acquisition across Darbhanga, Samastipur, and Madhubani districts. He further directed officials to submit updates on flyover construction in these areas.
The project reflects Bihar’s commitment to strengthening infrastructure and boosting connectivity, promising significant benefits for trade, transportation, and local communities.
