The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved the development of a four-lane highway between Badvel and Nellore in Andhra Pradesh. The 108.13-kilometre corridor will be built under the Design-Build-Finance-Operate-Transfer (DBFOT) model at a total cost of Rs 36.53 billion.
The project will connect key industrial nodes in Andhra Pradesh, including Kopparthy on the Vishakhapatnam–Chennai Industrial Corridor, Orvakal on the Hyderabad–Bengaluru Industrial Corridor, and Krishnapatnam on the Chennai–Bengaluru Industrial Corridor.
Starting at Gopavaram on National Highway 67 in YSR Kadapa District and ending at Krishnapatnam Port on NH-16 in SPSR Nellore District, the highway will reduce travel distance by 33.9 kilometres and cut travel time by one hour. This will help lower fuel consumption, carbon emissions, and vehicle operating costs.
The project is expected to generate about two million man-days of direct employment and 2.3 million man-days of indirect employment. It will also promote regional economic growth through improved connectivity and logistics performance.
