To address growing traffic congestion on the Mumbai–Goa National Highway, Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar has approved the redevelopment of four alternate routes. This move comes ahead of the completion of the Indapur and Mangaon bypass roads, with Rs 150 million sanctioned for the immediate upgrades.

The four alternative stretches identified for redevelopment are:
  • Morba Road to Mumbai–Goa Highway
  • Sainagar Canal Bridge to Uttekhol Canal Village
  • Nizampur Canal Road to Bhadav Road (within Mangaon Nagar Panchayat)
  • Indapur Canal Road to Wigavli Phata Road on the highway
The directive was issued following a high-level meeting chaired virtually by Pawar at Mantralaya on Wednesday. Key participants included PWD Minister Shivendrasinh Raje Bhosale, Women and Child Development Minister Aditi Tatkare, MP Sunil Tatkare, and senior officials from the Revenue, Planning, and Finance departments.
This meeting was a follow-up to Pawar’s site visit on 18 May, during which he assessed progress on the highway work in Raigad district and pledged rapid action to resolve bottlenecks at Mangaon and Indapur.

During the session, Pawar emphasised the urgency of completing the alternative routes, instructing officials to expedite execution. He also assured that the state government would provide additional funding if required, should the National Highways Authority fall short.

To ensure smooth implementation and commuter safety, he directed the Raigad District Collector and Superintendent of Police to allocate adequate personnel for traffic management along this vital corridor.

The initiative aims to ease vehicular pressure and enhance travel comfort for thousands of daily commuters until the larger bypass projects are completed
