Travel between Pune and Nashik is set to become dramatically faster, with a new elevated corridor reducing the journey from nearly two hours to just 20 minutes. Land acquisition for the ambitious project has already begun, offering major relief from traffic congestion on the busy route.
The 28 km elevated stretch will run from Nashik Phata to Rajgurunagar (Khed) along National Highway 60. Currently, the journey takes 1.5 to 2 hours, but the new corridor will slash travel time significantly.
To facilitate the project, land surveys and acquisitions are underway in villages such as Nanekarwadi, Medankarwadi, Waki Khurd, Waki Budruk, Chimbali, Kuruli, and Chakan. To further ease congestion in Chakan, land from Medankarwadi, Kadachi Wadi, Nanekarwadi, and Kharabwadi will be used to build alternate bypass roads.
Wider Infrastructure Push
Alongside the elevated corridor, the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) is driving multiple infrastructure upgrades. Commissioner Dr. Yogesh Mhase has directed immediate land surveys and acquisition for road widening projects to reduce traffic pressure within the city.
Key stretches under consideration include Balewadi to Shedge Vasti, Surya Hospital to Thakar Vasti, and Nande–Man Road. Meanwhile, the much-awaited Ring Road project is progressing in phases, with surveys and acquisitions nearing completion across several sections.
A joint review meeting at PMRDA’s Aundh office brought together District Collector Jitendra Dudi, Additional Commissioner Deepak Singla, Chief Engineer Rinaz Pathan, and senior officials from NHAI, PWD, and PMC to fast-track execution.
