Public Works Minister Prithiviraj Harichandan has announced a November-end deadline for the completion of the Sundarpada–Jatni road project, a major connectivity initiative in the state capital region.
The announcement followed an on-site review of the 13.5-kilometre stretch, during which Harichandan met senior departmental officials, the chief engineer, contractors, and local stakeholders to expedite progress. The project will convert the existing road into a four-lane corridor, improving traffic flow and easing congestion on surrounding routes.
Officials also addressed parallel issues, including drainage, sewage, and electricity adjustments, to prevent delays as road-widening advances. According to a government statement, the completed link will provide significant relief for commuters, strengthen infrastructure, and support local development.
Wider Push for Road Infrastructure
The Sundarpada–Jatni deadline coincides with several other highway initiatives approved by the state government. These include the 40-kilometre Pipili–Konark greenfield corridor, designed for speeds up to 100 kmph and projected to reduce travel time from 90 minutes to 30. The corridor will be 200 feet wide, complemented by widening the existing Pipili–Konark route.
Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida and Harichandan chaired the review meeting that finalised the plan. In addition, the government has approved expansions in Puri town, including the Taj International–Jagannath Stadium road and access routes around the Jagannath Temple.
In Nimapara constituency, four-lane widening is planned between Charichhak and Astarang, as well as between Jalarpur and Charichhak, further strengthening regional road connectivity.
