The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has drawn up plans for a 4.2-kilometre flyover on the heavily congested LBS Marg, connecting Kalpana Talkies in Kurla West to Pankhe Shah Baba Dargah in Ghatkopar West. The corridor is among Mumbai’s busiest, with daily traffic snarls at several major junctions.
Three intersections — the Andheri-Ghatkopar Link Road, Ghatkopar Station Road, and Sant Narsi Mehta Road — are particularly affected, with smaller crossroads further compounding the problem. The proposed four-lane, two-way flyover is intended to bypass these choke points, easing pressure at Shreyas junction, Sarvodaya Hospital junction, and the BMC yard signal near Sant Narsi Mehta Road.
The civic body has commissioned Veermata Jijabai Technological Institute (VJTI) to prepare detailed designs and construction methodology. As the stretch already hosts major works — including a road overbridge by Mumbai Rail Vikas Corporation and a Metro line near Sarvodaya Hospital — the new flyover will be constructed at a second level, above the Metro corridor.
Activist Anil Galgali welcomed the plan, highlighting how bottlenecks near Phoenix Marketcity mall, Kurla Depot, and Shreyas signal often force motorists towards the Eastern Express Highway, creating further congestion.
