The Kerala government has approved Rs 170.31 million for the construction of a new 600-metre road stretch from Kalamassery HMT to the Naval Armament Depot (NAD) in Kochi. This forms part of the second phase of the Seaport–Airport Road project, aimed at improving connectivity between key industrial and transport hubs.

At a review meeting chaired by Industries Minister P Rajeeve on 27 September, officials confirmed that the tender for the two-km HMT section will be floated once technical approvals are secured. The planned road will have a width of 45 metres, with surveying and site marking within HMT’s 215-hectare area expected to be completed shortly.

Land acquisition is underway in line with the Supreme Court’s directives, and the Revenue Department is finalising procedures. Efforts are also being intensified at the NAD section, where Rs 320.26 million had previously been allocated. Tenders for widening the NAD–Thorappu Road will be issued soon.

Meanwhile, the NAD–Mahilalayam stretch, covering 6.5 km, is nearing completion of land acquisition. The Kerala Infrastructure Investment Fund Board (KIIFB) had allocated Rs 5.69 billion for this section. The review meeting included District Collector G Priyanka and representatives from the Revenue Department, KIIFB, and Roads and Bridges Development Corporation of Kerala (RBDCK).

The project is expected to accelerate Phase 2 of the Seaport–Airport Corridor, enhancing road connectivity, facilitating trade, and supporting economic growth in the region.
