The launching shaft, measuring 200 meters in length, 50 meters in width, and 35 meters in depth, will act as the entry point for assembling and deploying the Tunnel Boring Machines (TBMs). Two state-of-the-art TBMs will be used for constructing the twin tunnels.

All components of the first TBM have already arrived, with tunnelling expected to begin in August 2026. The second TBM’s components are scheduled to arrive by December 2025, and its assembly is planned for completion by October 2026, after which mining and boring operations will commence.

The GMLR tunnel project—one of Mumbai’s most ambitious urban infrastructure undertakings—is being executed with advanced engineering, safety, and environmental standards, underscoring the city’s commitment to modern, sustainable mobility solutions.
