One of the most anticipated initiatives is the Versova–Bhayander Coastal Road, which will link Versova in Andheri to Bhayander. Once completed, it will drastically cut travel time between the western suburbs and Mira–Bhayander while decongesting the Western Express Highway. The project will also offer a scenic coastal route, enhancing both daily commuting and tourism potential.
Further north, the Uttan–Virar Sea Link is set to extend the coastal corridor from Uttan to Virar, connecting the fast-growing Vasai–Virar belt to Mumbai’s main transport grid. The new link is expected to stimulate real estate growth, improve regional access, and provide a quicker, more efficient alternative to existing overland routes.
In addition, the Veer Savarkar Sea Link, an extension of the Bandra–Worli Sea Link, will connect Bandra to Versova. This stretch will function as a parallel coastal route for the city’s western suburbs, easing pressure on the Western Express Highway. Designed to seamlessly integrate with the Versova–Bhayander route, it will form a continuous western coastal corridor from South Mumbai to Bhayander.
On the eastern side of the MMR, multiple new coastal corridors are being planned to enhance connectivity between Thane, Kharghar, and Ulwe. The Thane Coastal Road will offer an alternative route for commuters travelling to Mumbai and Navi Mumbai, while the Kharghar Coastal Road will improve intra-city traffic flow and link with the city’s upcoming metro network. The Ulwe Coastal Road, located near the Navi Mumbai International Airport, will play a crucial role in managing future traffic from the airport and nearby business districts.
Together, these projects are set to transform Mumbai’s urban transport framework, providing faster, cleaner, and more scenic travel options while promoting balanced regional growth. Similar to how the Marine Drive–Worli stretch has become a symbol of modern engineering, these new corridors promise to redefine mobility across the metropolitan region — connecting communities, supporting economic expansion, and reshaping the city’s coastal skyline.
