The Assam Cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, has approved a major set of infrastructure and policy initiatives, including the Rs 32.17 million Asom Mala 3.0 programme. The scheme will develop 883 km of high-speed roads and 36 bridges across 34 districts, aimed at boosting regional connectivity and linking rural clusters with urban centres.
In a significant sports push, the government has sanctioned Rs 7.65 billion for redeveloping Guwahati’s R.G. Baruah Sports Complex, which will include a 25,000-seat FIFA Category 2 stadium capable of hosting national and international events.
The Cabinet also cleared a Community-Led Riverbank Protection Policy to address recurring erosion and flooding through voluntary land relinquishment and greater local participation. It further approved tabling both hard and digital copies of the T.P. Tewary Commission report on the 1983 Assam Disturbances in the upcoming Assembly session.
Additionally, the Matri Pitri Vandana scheme was endorsed, allowing state employees special casual leave in July 2026 to spend time with parents and elders. The Chief Minister said the decisions reflect Assam’s focus on holistic growth, modernised infrastructure and strengthened community values.
