Kapsch TrafficCom has completed the delivery and commissioning of a Multi Lane Free Flow (MLFF) electronic tolling system on the Puente Industrial bridge in Chile’s Bío Bío region. The 2.5-km bridge, with an overall structural length of 6.4 km, is the longest in the country and is operated by concessionaire Aleática.

The system enables uninterrupted toll collection and supports smoother travel and improved traffic management. It includes two toll gantries, equipped with vehicle-classification sensors, high-resolution cameras, DSRC antennas for reading on-board units, and local servers enabling real-time transaction processing. The structures cover multiple lanes and hard shoulders and incorporate measures to prevent evasion in areas with cycle paths.

Kapsch has also developed an integrated back-office platform comprising operational and commercial modules. The operational system manages transaction validation and data consolidation, with capacity for up to 2,500 vehicles per hour per lane. The commercial system handles customer service, billing, interoperability with the National Traffic Register, and administration of 120,000 rental on-board units, with advanced functions including debt collection and mass notifications.

The system is designed to support more than 1.2 million transactions per month, with 7.3 TB of storage and connectivity to multiple payment channels.
