Union Minister Shri Nitin Gadkari recently inspected maintenance and safety works on two key highway stretches in Gujarat—the Surat–Hazira section of NH-53 and the Surat–Vapi section of NH-48. The visit focused on reviewing the progress of ongoing maintenance, black-spot rectification and safety enhancement measures being undertaken on corridors that connect major industrial and commercial hubs in the region.

During the inspection, the Minister held discussions with senior officials of the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) to evaluate on-ground conditions and address issues affecting commuter safety and travel efficiency. He highlighted the importance of completing pending works within stipulated timelines and stressed that both corridors must consistently offer safer and smoother passage for all road users.

Shri Gadkari underscored that improving riding quality, preventing accidents and ensuring uninterrupted connectivity are essential to sustaining economic activity across Gujarat’s industrial belt. He recommended close monitoring of field progress, adoption of best practices in construction safety and enhanced coordination among stakeholders involved in the upgrade and maintenance of these stretches.

The review reflects the Ministry’s continued focus on strengthening national highways through targeted interventions that support mobility, safety and regional development. CW.
