Once completed, the alternative parallel route connecting Kalyan and Dombivli will become fully operational, giving residents a faster and less congested option compared with the currently overcrowded internal roads of Thakurli.
Kalyan Lok Sabha MP Dr Shrikant Eknath Shinde, who has consistently followed up the matter with the MMRDA, expressed gratitude to Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde for ensuring that the long-delayed project is revived.
Celebrating the tender announcement, Shiv Sena MLA from Kalyan Rural, Rajesh More, said the completion of the elevated connector will significantly ease traffic chaos for thousands of daily commuters. “The work was stuck for years, but once the flyover becomes operational, citizens will get massive relief,” he said.
To facilitate construction, the Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation (KDMC) has announced compensation for around 60 houses that will be affected — a key factor behind previous delays.
The MMRDA-built flyover linking Dombivli East and West was completed in 2018, but the extension toward Thakurli — connecting directly to 90 Feet Road — remained stalled due to land and compensation issues, which have now been resolved. Construction is expected to restart within one or two months following tender finalisation and necessary on-ground approvals.
