Lok Sabha MP S Supongmeren Jamir has directed the National Highways & Infrastructure Development Corporation (NHIDCL) to accelerate work on several delayed national highway projects in Nagaland. The projects under review include the Dimapur–Kohima four-lane highway and multiple two-lane stretches being executed by NHIDCL that have fallen behind schedule.
According to a press release, the MP chaired a coordination meeting on Wednesday with senior NHIDCL officials and project contractors to assess the progress of major highway works. During the meeting, he noted that several sections of the ongoing projects were significantly lagging, urging contractors to expedite construction “without any further delay.”
The review involved detailed discussions on specific bottlenecks and the status of each work package. Issues related to land availability, contractor performance, and logistical challenges were raised as part of the assessment. The NHIDCL executive director, along with representatives from various contracting firms, participated in the deliberations.
To ensure accountability and on-ground verification, it was decided that the MP will conduct joint site inspections with NHIDCL officials across multiple project locations in January 2026. These visits are expected to help identify persistent obstacles and speed up decision-making to prevent further slippages.
The Dimapur–Kohima four-lane project, considered one of Nagaland’s most important connectivity corridors, has been particularly affected by delays. The MP emphasised that timely completion of national highway works is essential for improving mobility, supporting regional development and enhancing safety for commuters.
Jamir reiterated that the central government is prioritising infrastructure upgrades in the Northeast and said executing agencies must align with these goals by ensuring timely delivery. He urged contractors and NHIDCL officials to resolve pending issues swiftly and work cohesively to bring stalled stretches back on track.
