The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has taken suo motu cognisance of a media report stating that four labourers died and several others were injured when a three-storey under-construction building collapsed in Nagla Hukum Singh village, Jevar, in Gautam Budh Nagar district, Uttar Pradesh, on 19 November 2025. One of the ten labourers working at the site was reportedly missing. The structure was allegedly being built without official permission.

The Commission noted that the reported circumstances raise serious concerns regarding violations of the victims’ human rights. It has therefore issued notices to the District Magistrate and the Commissioner of Police, Gautam Budh Nagar, seeking a detailed report within two weeks.

The Commission has asked that the report include the medical condition of the injured workers, as well as details of any compensation provided by authorities to the next of kin of the deceased and to those injured.

According to the media report dated 20 November 2025, the building collapsed from bottom to top within seconds as shuttering for the third floor was being removed.
