The rollout will be the centrepiece of the Chief Minister’s one-day visit to Nadia, where she will launch the initiative at an administrative programme at the district headquarters in Krishnanagar. She is also scheduled to address a political rally later in the day.
According to officials, the project will be fully funded by the state exchequer at a total cost of Rs 84.87 billion. Of the overall length, around 15,011 kilometres of rural roads will be constructed across villages and hinterland areas at an estimated cost of Rs 69.87 billion.
In urban areas, about 5,019 kilometres of roads will be developed under the jurisdiction of the Kolkata Metropolitan Development Authority, with an allocated budget of Rs 15.00 billion.
The state cabinet recently approved the large-scale programme, and the government has launched a dedicated tendering portal to fast-track implementation. Officials said construction work is expected to begin in January.
