The project will link the NH-65 and NH-216 junction to Machilipatnam Port via the Machilipatnam bypass of NH-216, providing seamless access to the national highway network. This connection is expected to integrate the port with inland freight corridors and reduce carriage distances for heavy vehicles. The link is expected to improve last mile connectivity for the hinterland and support multimodal transfers.
The approved scope includes a six-lane main carriageway, service roads, three flyovers and an overpass-cum-railway overbridge to ensure uninterrupted movement. The design aims to cut freight turnaround time and ease traffic congestion around the port and adjacent highways. Improved logistics efficiency is anticipated to lower transportation costs and support faster delivery cycles for exporters and importers. The infrastructure works are designed to accommodate heavy commercial traffic and to enhance safety for all road users.
The announcement was made by the Road Transport and Highways Minister on the social media platform X, signalling central commitment to port connectivity projects. Officials indicated the approved works will be prioritised to align with broader infrastructure schedules and facilitate timely implementation. Coordination with state authorities was said to be a part of implementation planning.
Deputy Chief Minister K. Pawan Kalyan expressed gratitude to the Central Government and said the project would boost logistics, reduce freight time and strengthen Andhra Pradesh's economy. Stakeholders in the transport and trade sectors were expected to welcome measures that promise more predictable transit times and enhanced access for freight operators. Regional supply chains and farm produce movement are expected to benefit from faster access to export channels and reduced handling times.
