In Gujarat, the ministry approved construction of four-lane sections on the Dhamasiya-Bitada/Movi and Nasarpore-Malotha stretches at a combined capital cost of about Rs45.84 bn. The principal scheme covers a 107.67 km section that forms part of National Highway 56, which starts at Nimbahera in Rajasthan, traverses Dahod district in Gujarat and Alirajpur district in Madhya Pradesh, and re-enters Gujarat near Chhota Udepur before terminating at its junction with National Highway 48 near Vapi. The work is intended to strengthen regional linkages.
The project has been designed for a maximum speed of 100 km/h and an expected average speed of 70 km/h, which is projected to cut travel time by 40 per cent, from two and a half hours to one and a half hours. The higher design speed and improved road geometry are expected to enhance safety and freight movement efficiency. The scheme also aims to support local economic activity along the corridor.
In Telangana, the cabinet committee approved widening of National Highway 167 between Gudebellur and Mahabubnagar to a four-lane standard, with a project length of 80.01 km and a capital cost of about Rs31.75 bn. The project will be implemented in hybrid annuity mode under the National Highways (Original) scheme, hereafter NH (O).
Authorities indicated that the Telangana project will provide significant benefits to Narayanpet and Mahabubnagar districts by improving access and enabling more reliable transport links. The approvals form part of a larger push to upgrade national highway infrastructure across the country and to catalyse economic development in affected regions.
