The structure is planned to extend approximately two point two kilometres and will link Kanpur, Jabalpur, Nagpur and Jhansi corridors while also affecting movement to nearby towns such as Chhatarpur, Rewa, Seoni, Chhindwara and Lalitpur. A separate DPR for four-laning from Makronia to Baheria has been tendered with an estimated cost of Rs 150 mn for preparatory work. The local MLA, Pradeep Laria, said he had made continuous efforts to advance the scheme and acknowledged that earlier opposition from traders had previously delayed the project.
Makronia Chowk has expanded beyond a suburban junction into a commercial and logistics hub with large automobile showrooms, warehouses and growing highway transit on National Highway 44, which intensifies simultaneous local and intercity traffic. Once the four-lane road and flyover elements are in place, highway movement is expected to accelerate, inner city congestion should reduce and the distribution of heavy vehicle pressure should improve. Traffic experts cautioned that the flyover alone would not suffice and that provision for service roads, managed entry and exit, control of market traffic and signal synchronisation would be required for sustained relief.
The immediate procedural step is issuing tenders and preparing the DPR, followed by administrative and financial clearances before any construction can commence, and construction has not yet started. Observers noted that the efficacy of the initiative will depend on the quality of the DPR and subsequent implementation planning. For now, Makronia Chowk has been positioned as a significant point on the state infrastructure map.
