The Central Government has sanctioned Rs 3,680 million (mn) for the construction of a two?lane national highway connecting Jeelugumilli in Eluru district to Kovvur in East Godavari, improving access to the Polavaram project region. The scheme is being developed as National Highway 365BB (NH 365BB) and is intended to enhance connectivity between Telangana, north Andhra, and key parts of Andhra Pradesh. The funding is expected to support road works and associated infrastructure along the designated corridor.

The proposed 86.7 kilometre stretch will run alongside the Akhanda Godavari in the Kovvur Division and is expected to provide scenic views while boosting connectivity and tourism in the area. The alignment begins at NH?316 near Jeelugumilli and passes through Buttayagudem, Kannapuram, LND Peta, Sagipadu, Dondapudi, Pattiseema and Tallapudi before merging with NH?16 at Kovvur. A nearly 30?kilometre new double?lane section is planned along one side of the river to serve local and through traffic.

The project is being executed in two phases, with 40.4 km in the first phase and 46.3 km in the second, and the contractor handling the Devarapalli?Khammam Greenfield Highway has been entrusted with the work. Construction activities are progressing and work continues on carriageway works, drainage and ancillary structures. Once completed, NH 365BB will provide improved access to the Polavaram project and to the Pattiseema pilgrim centre, located about 30 km and 25 km from Kovvur respectively. The road is expected to shorten travel distances and journey times for inter?state and intra?state movement.

Land acquisition for the project requires approximately 175 acres, of which nearly 70 per cent has already been acquired and officials have convened meetings with land owners to facilitate handover to the government. The completed highway is expected to benefit nearly 100 agency villages and 30 plain areas, enhancing market access and public services in the region. It will also provide a faster route between Hyderabad and Rajamahendravaram, supporting economic activity and regional development. Continued progress on the works will be monitored to ensure timely completion and optimal utilisation of the sanctioned funds.
