The contract for demolition of the existing structure and construction of a new bridge has been awarded to Thomas Iyadurai Infrastructure Private Limited, which will act as the contractor for the project. The scope covers removal of the present span and erection of a wider bridge aligned with the existing four-lane road, with the stated aim of improving traffic movement and enhancing road safety in the area.
The project timetable sets a completion period of 180 days from commencement and the authority has indicated that engineering, drainage and pavement considerations will be integrated into the redesign. Construction phases are expected to be managed to limit disruption to commuters and local businesses, with traffic management measures and temporary diversions anticipated during works.
The upgraded structure is expected to provide smoother connectivity between nearby residential and commercial localities and to ease congestion on adjoining roads, thereby contributing to better urban mobility. The authority has indicated ongoing oversight of project delivery and coordination with municipal agencies to address utilities and safety requirements during construction while the contractor proceeds towards completion.
