Sikar Road is a principal route linking the city with the Shekhawati region and North Rajasthan and carries a heavy mix of internal and regional traffic that contributes to extreme congestion at several junctions. Rapid urban development along the corridor has resulted in unsafe turning manoeuvres, frequent lane changes and chaotic movement associated with collisions and with travel delays. The JDA plans measures at the most affected junctions to streamline traffic patterns and curtail sudden lane switching.
On New Sanganer Road the programme will focus on sidewalk development and horticultural improvements to create a greener corridor and on making major intersections signal-free. Seven U-turns will be constructed on the 200 feet wide road and junctions at Bhrigu Path, Rajat Path, VT Road, Patel Marg, Vijay Path and the B-2 Bypass are scheduled for redevelopment. The JDA said encroachments had been removed to align the road with the master plan and that the current work builds on that clearance.
Junction improvement works will prioritise locations near schools with initial activity proposed at Bhagwan Das Marg and with measures designed to protect children who commute on foot. Pedestrian crossings will be painted on all four approaches to junctions and vehicles will be required to stop five metres behind the junction to improve visibility and prevent encroachment of the crossing area. The combined interventions are expected to reduce peak hour congestion, lower the risk of accidents and enhance the quality of the urban corridor.
