The Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) has announced a plan to construct service roads along the metro alignment and to pave the Southern Peripheral Road (SPR) with tiles. The measures are aimed at improving last-mile connectivity and easing traffic congestion along principal corridors. The authority has framed the initiative as part of a broader effort to enhance urban infrastructure and pedestrian access. The initiative forms part of routine urban improvement planning and will involve survey and design stages before construction.

The proposed service roads will run parallel to the metro route to provide access to adjacent properties and to segregate slow moving local traffic from through traffic. The design is expected to include provisions for pedestrian pathways, cycle tracks and regulated access points to reduce shortcuts and informal crossings. Officials indicated that the work will seek to integrate with existing road networks to minimise disruption. Traffic management plans are expected to be put in place to maintain movement during works.

The SPR tiling project is intended to replace uneven surfaces and reduce maintenance needs by using durable paving tiles suited to heavy footfall and vehicular use. The tiling is likely to be accompanied by measures to improve drainage and street furniture so that footpaths remain usable during monsoon periods. Coordination with metro authorities and municipal agencies will be necessary to align construction schedules and utility relocations. Material selection will aim to balance cost, longevity and ease of maintenance.

GMDA anticipates that the combined interventions will streamline traffic flow, enhance safety for pedestrians and cyclists and support more sustainable modes of travel across the city. The authority will monitor implementation and adjust designs to address local concerns and encroachment where necessary. Residents and commuters are expected to benefit from clearer carriageways and improved accessibility once works are completed.
