Although the Mananchira to Malaparamba reach has been opened to traffic, the committee said several critical elements remain unfinished, including medians, covered drains, footpaths and streetlights, and a foot overbridge at Civil Station. It added that bus bays, U?turn lanes and pedestrian markings were not provided and that blacktopping by BMBC was pending. The group warned that vehicles are moving at excessive speeds on the partially completed alignment and that authorities would be held responsible for any accidents.
Work on the Malaparamba–Vellimadukunnu stretch had only just begun and land acquisition involving the State Bank of India at Mananchira and Kunnath Textiles at Eranhipalam remained incomplete. The committee noted that M. G. S. Narayanan had led protests for the road even at the age of 88 and had faced arrest and court punishment during the movement. The first phase was opened to traffic on March nine after long delays and protests.
The proposal to widen the road was announced in the 2008-09 State Budget and the draft declaration was issued in 2013, though land acquisition delayed implementation and work on the initial phase commenced in June 2025. A total of eight point three nine km is being upgraded into four lanes with a width of 24 m under the Kerala Road Fund Board (KRFB). The Mananchira–Malaparamba reach of five point three two km was completed at a cost of Rs 769 mn and the Malaparamba–Vellimadukunnu stretch of three point zero two km will be implemented at a cost of Rs 504.9 mn. The committee reiterated its demand for completion and for candidates to declare their stance.
