The government has approved the construction of a road over bridge at LC-235 at Deendayal Port Authority in Kandla, allocating Rs 1,325.1 million (mn) to the project. The measure is intended to strengthen port-led development and address critical logistical constraints at the port. Construction will be undertaken by Western Railway on a deposit basis and is integrated with national efforts to modernise maritime infrastructure and improve multi modal connectivity across key supply chains nationwide.

The project forms part of the Sagarmala programme and aligns with the PM Gati Shakti National Master Plan to enhance multi modal connectivity and logistics efficiency. The proposal was appraised by the Delegated Investment Board in a meeting chaired by the Secretary of the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways and the revised cost was examined to ensure compliance with modern safety standards and technical specifications. The approval reflects continued prioritisation of port infrastructure strategically.

The proposed road over bridge is expected to remove critical bottlenecks by enabling seamless movement across the rail crossing and ensuring uninterrupted flow of port bound cargo. It is anticipated to reduce congestion within the port precinct, facilitate faster cargo evacuation and improve operational efficiency at Deendayal Port. The union minister indicated that the measure contributes to building integrated infrastructure that accelerates trade, enhances safety and supports economic growth while reinforcing the country's maritime position.

In line with the prime minister's vision of integrated development, the ministry has directed major ports to map projects on the PM Gati Shakti portal to improve synchronisation of multi modal connectivity. The initiative is expected to enhance inter agency coordination and accelerate infrastructure delivery. The approval of the Deendayal Port road over bridge is a decisive step towards world class port infrastructure and reinforcing the country's role in global maritime trade and national resilience.
