Meghalaya Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong conducted a review of road projects under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana, known as PMGSY, across several districts. He inspected work sites and assessed progress on ongoing stretches meant to improve rural connectivity. The review was attended by state public works department officials and representatives of implementing agencies. He emphasised the importance of timely completion and adherence to technical and environmental standards.\n\nHe flagged delays in the issuance of no objection certificates in border areas and directed officials to prioritise clearance processes. The deputy chief minister noted that administrative bottlenecks and interdepartmental coordination gaps were slowing deliveries and affecting contractor schedules. He underlined that unresolved clearances could jeopardise planned connectivity gains and urged a pragmatic approach to land and access issues. A monitoring cell was asked to track clearance timelines and report progress.\n\nHe called for closer liaison with security agencies and district administrations to ensure that work could proceed without interruption near sensitive stretches. The state public works department was directed to review contractor performance and to ensure quality control measures were enforced at each stage. He also asked finance and planning departments to expedite release of due funds where eligible so that contractors were not held up. Officials were instructed to submit a timebound action plan within a fortnight.\n\nThe deputy chief minister said that accelerating work on these roads would support economic activity and access to essential services in remote areas. He indicated that improved road links were expected to bolster market access for farmers and to reduce travel times for health and education purposes. Follow up inspections were scheduled and the state government planned closer oversight until projects reached completion. The administration reiterated its commitment to delivery of durable rural roads under central and state schemes.
