The PWD minister Parvesh Sahib Singh indicated that the foundation stone for the Savitri Cinema project is scheduled to be laid within a month and that physical work on site will commence a month after that. The Savitri Cinema flyover has been allocated Rs 580 million (mn) and the Modi Mill to Kalkaji Temple integration is estimated at Rs 3.1294 billion (bn). Both projects are expected to take around two and a half years to complete from the start of construction.
The second flyover will be constructed parallel to the existing structure and was identified as a need by authorities in 2016, with a basic plan prepared and approved by the Unified Traffic and Transportation Infrastructure (Planning and Engineering) Centre. The parallel carriageway is designed to provide hassle free movement between Greater Kailash and Nehru Place and to increase traffic throughput on the corridor. Authorities framed the alignment to complement existing ring road links.
The Modi Mill to Kalkaji Mandir integration will include a new three lane carriageway in each direction from Modi Mill to the temple, aimed at providing signal free movement and improving traffic speeds. Officials indicated that the projects should eliminate congestion at key junctions such as Captain Gaur Marg and Outer Ring Road and benefit surrounding markets and residential areas. The PWD said the works will be monitored to meet the stated timelines and operational goals.
