The State Cabinet approved the lowest turnkey bid submitted by M/s SPS Construction India Pvt Ltd. The approved bid amount stands at Rs 1,588,890,305, equivalent to Rs 1.59 billion (bn) and excluding GST. The financial approval followed evaluation of technical and commercial offers.
The project is allotted a timeline of 36 calendar months for completion and authorities indicated that execution will follow a planned schedule to ensure timely delivery. Engineers will undertake design and construction on the upstream alignment to integrate with existing approaches. The new crossing is expected to ease traffic congestion on NH-16, which remains a principal corridor linking the two urban centres.
Officials also noted that the road from Bhubaneswar Airport to Nandankanan Zoological Park is proposed to be widened into an eight-lane corridor as part of broader mobility plans. The bridge, together with the planned road widening, is intended to provide faster and more direct access to Cuttack and to support anticipated growth in vehicular demand. Planners said the combined developments will boost connectivity and contribute to regional transport resilience.
Authorities stressed that timely delivery will be essential to realise the intended benefits for commuters and freight operators. The scheme forms part of the state government's infrastructure push to strengthen links between major population and economic centres.
