The state government has approved a Rs 500 million (mn) road project to link Kupwara and Baramulla, the MLA for Lolab reported. The project is intended to improve all-weather connectivity between the districts and reduce travel time for residents and goods. Officials have been directed to expedite land acquisition and tender processes to ensure timely implementation. The MLA indicated that local stakeholders have been consulted and necessary surveys completed.

The road scheme will be financed from the state budget and aims to support economic activity in border areas. Work on ancillary infrastructure, including bridges and drainage, has been prioritised to preserve road integrity. Engineers are preparing detailed designs and cost estimates prior to issuing contracts. The authority overseeing the project has set benchmarks for progress reporting.

The MLA reported that efforts are under way on the Bandipora tunnel to enhance regional connectivity. Technical clearances have been sought and coordination with central agencies has been initiated to align timelines. Local administration will monitor environmental safeguards and address community concerns during construction. The representative emphasised that transparent tendering and regular audits will guide project delivery.

The initiative is designed to reduce isolation for remote habitations and to facilitate faster access to services and markets. Officials will provide periodic progress updates and engage with residents to resolve grievances. Funding disbursement and contract awards will follow statutory procedures and audit oversight. The MLA sought cooperation from all stakeholders to ensure the works proceed without avoidable delays.

Project implementation will create local employment during construction phases and will call for skilled labour that the administration aims to source locally where feasible. Planning has incorporated seasonal constraints and logistical arrangements for material supply to maintain continuity. Oversight committees will review progress against milestones and publicly publish summaries to inform citizens and stakeholders for timely corrective action.
