The developed geocell system is produced from processed end-of-life plastic and designed to provide structural support, durability and field applicability while contributing to circular economy objectives and reducing environmental burden from plastic disposal. Extensive material characterisation, performance evaluation and validation studies were undertaken to ensure the system met engineering performance requirements for road applications. The technology offers an innovative pathway for integrating waste management with resilient road construction at scale.
CSIR-CRRI officials described the initiative as addressing national priorities of sustainable waste management and resource efficient infrastructure development and said the work demonstrates the strength of collaborative research with industry partners.
