During the inspection, he reviewed the pace of work at strategically important tunnels and viaducts and was apprised that two major viaducts are progressing as per schedule and are expected to be operational ahead of the Yatra. He examined progress on a critical tunnel nearing completion and directed agencies to adhere strictly to timelines for remaining work. Executing agencies were instructed to expedite residual tasks while maintaining safety and quality standards.
The Deputy Commissioner emphasised the significance of the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway as the vital road link connecting Kashmir with the rest of the country and urged measures to ensure uninterrupted movement of pilgrims, commuters and transporters during the Yatra period. He directed agencies to accelerate road widening, strengthening and safety-related works and to pursue speedy execution wherever required to meet stipulated deadlines. Officials were reminded that completion will improve connectivity, reduce travel time and enhance safety for highway users.
He reviewed pre-monsoon preparedness and instructed officials to implement effective traffic management and contingency plans to minimise disruptions from adverse weather. The Deputy Commissioner directed officers of the National Highways Authority of India to station adequate manpower and machinery at vulnerable locations from Nashri to Banihal to ensure prompt clearance of roads in case of blockages. The district administration will coordinate closely with all departments and project executing agencies to ensure critical works are completed in time for the annual pilgrimage.
