Project planning work has advanced to preliminary feasibility studies and technical assessments, with detailed project reports and cost estimates to be finalised prior to tendering. Officials indicated that surveys and assessments are underway to evaluate traffic density, access requirements and road safety provisions. The proposed widening is to be carried out largely within the existing alignment in order to limit the need for fresh land acquisition and to reduce implementation delays. This approach is intended to shorten timelines and lower the complexity of execution.
The expansion is intended to ease congestion and improve travel efficiency for commuters moving between Lucknow and the northern Terai districts, including Sitapur, Hardoi and Lakhimpur Kheri. The corridor serves as a key route for the transport of agricultural produce and regional trade, and improved capacity is expected to benefit freight movement and logistics. Authorities are assessing junction improvements, service lane requirements and measures to enhance overall road safety as part of the planning exercise.
In preparation for execution, teams are undertaking encroachment removal and service road improvement works along sections of the corridor to enable future widening activity. The project is expected to feature upgraded junctions, enhanced safety infrastructure and improved traffic management systems once work begins. The proposal sits alongside multiple capacity augmentation projects being pursued in Uttar Pradesh under central road infrastructure programmes.
