Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari reviewed the quality and maintenance progress of National Highways (NH) projects covering 4,335 km in Punjab and 3,332 km in Delhi and Haryana following inputs received via media and social media platforms. The review was described in an official statement and focused on project execution, maintenance standards and readiness for seasonal challenges. The minister sought a comprehensive accounting of current works and timelines from responsible agencies.

He emphasised the need to accelerate on-ground execution of projects and to ensure timely completion of works, directing officials and contractors to strengthen coordination and maintain strict adherence to project timelines. The minister instructed agencies to institute continuous monitoring, implement robust quality control measures and adopt modern construction technologies and best engineering practices to enhance asset durability and long-term performance of the NH network. Emphasis was placed on measurable benchmarks and frequent progress reporting.

He underlined the need to improve riding quality and to ensure seamless connectivity across key highway corridors in Punjab, Delhi and Haryana, and directed that high construction and maintenance standards be prioritised to provide a safer, smoother and more efficient travel experience for commuters. The minister called for greater accountability in maintenance operations and asked for regular inspections to identify and address deficiencies in a timely manner.

He further directed advance monsoon preparedness measures across all highway stretches and stressed the importance of effective drainage management, slope protection measures and swift response mechanisms to minimise disruptions during the monsoon season and to ensure commuter safety. The minister instructed concerned agencies to remain vigilant and to ensure uninterrupted traffic movement by proactively addressing waterlogging, erosion and other weather related challenges, and to coordinate emergency responses where needed.
