The bypass will start from Adiyakkamangalam–Thandalai and will pass through Athipuliyur, Andipalayam, Kidaramkondan, Pallivaramangalam, Perumpugalur, Elavangarkudi and Anaivadapathy Colony among other settlements. Route details released by officials indicate the alignment is designed to divert through traffic away from the town centre. The works will also connect directly to key state highways and local access roads.
Authorities indicated the scheme is expected to significantly decongest Thiruvarur town, reduce travel time by approximately 15 minutes and improve road safety by diverting heavy traffic away from densely populated and commercial areas. The alignment will improve connectivity to State Highway 23 and State Highway 65 as well as to the Thyagaraja Swamy Temple, enhancing access for both commerce and pilgrims. It is expected to facilitate more reliable schedules for buses and commercial vehicles, aiding daily commuters and transport operators.
The ministry emphasised that the bypass will strengthen links between industrial hubs such as Tiruchirappalli and Coimbatore and port towns including Karaikal and Nagapattinam, boosting regional economic activity and logistics efficiency. The project, presented as a strategic investment in infrastructure, is intended to contribute to wider development and ease of travel for residents and businesses. Planners said the scheme will also create opportunities for ancillary services along the corridor and improve last mile links to industrial estates.
