The sanction forms part of the railways' ongoing programme for the construction and modernisation of road over bridges, road under bridges and related infrastructure. The project is intended to improve mobility and safety at railway crossings in Madhya Pradesh.
The approved design provides a four-lane Road Over Bridge featuring a 72-metre camel-back superstructure supported by PSC girders and a full viaduct arrangement. The bridge is designed to accommodate rising traffic demand while providing smoother and safer movement for commuters. To facilitate local circulation and maintenance access, six-metre-wide service roads will be provided on both sides beneath the bridge.
The scope of work also covers extensive utility shifting and modernisation, including relocation and upgrade of existing sewer networks through the construction of new sewer lines to maintain uninterrupted drainage services. The project further includes shifting and renewal of electrical infrastructure with installation of new poles, lighting systems and associated equipment to enhance public utility services. These works are expected to integrate urban utilities with the bridge structure and support longer-term urban development goals.
Indian Railways has indicated that the rebuilding of Shastriya Bridge will reduce traffic bottlenecks, strengthen integration between rail and urban transport networks and improve ease of movement for residents. The approval reflects the railways' commitment to modern infrastructure development and safer, more efficient transport networks. Implementation details and timelines will be coordinated with local authorities to ensure minimal disruption during construction.
