The Assam government contributed Rs 470 mn towards the project while Indian Railways provided Rs 250 mn, according to officials. The minister described the bridge as a response to a long-standing demand from residents and said the scheme aimed to strengthen local connectivity. The infrastructure is intended to benefit daily commuters, goods carriers and emergency services. Coordination between state and rail authorities was cited as crucial to finalising the funding split.
The bridge is also expected to improve access for employees of Oil India Limited (OIL), whose field headquarters is based in Duliajan, facilitating movement to industrial and administrative sites. Officials added that removal of bottlenecks would aid logistics and could support faster response times for health and safety services. Further monitoring will determine the extent of operational improvements once traffic patterns stabilise. Maintenance responsibilities will be overseen by the relevant agencies to ensure durability and safe operations.
