Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath are scheduled to inaugurate the Kanpur–Lucknow Expressway from Unnao at three pm on Monday. The authority has said the expressway will be opened to the public from eight am on 14 July. Yadav used a post on X to attack the BJP over the condition of major expressway projects and to question construction integrity.
He cited the Rs 67 billion (bn) Missing Link project in Maharashtra as further evidence of corruption and poor design, and asked whether projects were intended for public convenience or to benefit contractors linked to the BJP. He warned that commuters would spend more time entering the city than travelling between the two centres and said speed was meaningless if infrastructure was unsafe. He argued that persistent corruption would deter travellers from making short journeys.
NHAI Project Director Nakul Prakash Verma rejected the subsidence allegation, saying there was no caving in on the main carriageway and that images circulating showed erosion of the roadside earthen embankment rather than structural failure. He described the erosion as routine rain-cut that is repaired by refilling soil and said the affected portion had already been remediated with all technical works to be completed before the opening. The BJP in Unnao dismissed the claims as baseless and politically motivated and said any minor technical issues would be rectified by the concerned agency.
