Under the revised plan the work will include a 14-km approach road linking NH-216 at Gudimellanka to Rameswaram, a major bridge across the Vasishta Godavari between Rameswaram and Rajulanka, and a 7-km connecting road through Lakshmaneswaram to NH-216 at Seetharampuram. The roads and bridge are intended to integrate with existing national highway infrastructure and to provide direct cross-delta connectivity. Project specifications and alignment were modified from earlier proposals for the Narasapuram–Sakhinetipalli route.
Four contractors have submitted bids, according to the National Highways Authority, and technical evaluation of tender documents is under way in New Delhi. Construction is slated to commence once scrutiny is complete and the contract is awarded, with officials indicating expedited activity thereafter. The state water resources minister described the bridge as a potential game changer for rapid economic and infrastructural development in Konaseema and Narasapuram.
Officials expressed confidence that the work would be completed by 2029 and said there would be no shortage of funds to ensure timely delivery. Once operational the crossing is expected to significantly improve connectivity across the Godavari delta, reduce travel time and facilitate faster movement of people and goods. The scheme is projected to provide a major boost to trade, tourism and broader economic growth across the twin Godavari districts.
