The Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) reported that more than 219 kilometres of roads still require repair and revamping, and that it has completed 177 km of the 396 km targeted for 2026. The civic body indicated that the remaining stretches are expected to be taken up after the monsoon.
Residents said repair and construction projects have moved at a sluggish pace despite repeated complaints filed through the CM Window grievance portal. They reported exposed bitumen, construction debris and gaps along roadside edges, with problems most acute in sectors 45, 46 and South City-1. Several local representatives described commuting as hazardous during the monsoon, citing waterlogged potholes that increase the risk of accidents.
The MCG said the city action plan identifies a total road network of 611 km for repair and upgradation, with 215 km scheduled for completion in 2027. Officials noted that work on several projects was delayed because of design revisions and supply constraints. The civic body added that it will resume unfinished projects once weather conditions permit.
Local residents raised concerns about prolonged timelines and the quality of workmanship on smart road projects. One association said an internal 18-metre road in Sector 45 had been awaiting repairs for two years while another reported that bitumen had been left uncovered near markets and that construction and demolition waste remained uncleared. An RWA leader said complaints submitted on the portal in November had not been resolved, contributing to public frustration.
MCG officials attributed delays to a shortage of bitumen linked to the US-Iran conflict and to revisions in project design that followed resident feedback. A junior engineer requested anonymity and indicated that inspections can be arranged if residents suspect substandard material. The chief engineer said contractors would not be penalised for delays caused by the bitumen shortage but that action would be taken where projects had been delayed without valid reason under contractual provisions.
