Two long-pending road projects in Uri and Sopore have been approved and put to tender following recommendations by Baramulla Lok Sabha MP Engineer Rashid, the Awami Itihaad Party (AIP) said. The projects were included in an e-NIT issued by the Office of the Chief Engineer, Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY), Jammu and Kashmir Rural Road Development Agency (JKRRDA), Kashmir under E-NIT No. 03/CE/PMGSY/KMR of 2026-27 dated 15 June 2026.\n\nWork under Package No. JK03-4544 covers construction and maintenance of the road from L028 Link Road Bimyar to Mooriya via Pethgrann. Package No. JK03-4011 covers construction and maintenance of the road from L075 Link Road Bomia-Harwan-Zaloora, third kilometre, to Yemberzaewari. These descriptions appear in the public tender documentation.\n\nAIP chief spokesperson Inam Un Nabi said Engineer Rashid had raised the issues with authorities through letters sent from jail via his lawyer. In D.O. Letter No. MP/BLA/2025/77 dated two July 2025 addressed to the Secretary, Roads and Buildings Department he had sought repair and upgrade of the Harwan to Marble Road via Yemberzalwari in Sopore. A separate D.O. Letter No. MP/BLA/2025/81 dated 24 July 2025 addressed to the Principal Secretary, Public Works Department sought the upgrade of the Government High School Bimyar to Ziarat Sharif Moriyan Road in Uri.\n\nThe inclusion of the routes in the e-NIT and their placement on tender rolls followed the formal requests lodged by the MP and the party. The e-NIT sets out work scopes, timelines and maintenance obligations for prospective contractors and reflects technical assessments completed by the relevant office. Tendering will allow contracting authorities to appoint firms for mobilisation and execution under the approved packages.\n\nOfficials indicated the scope includes measures to address long-standing surface and drainage shortcomings and to improve access to education and services for communities along the routes. The projects are designed to strengthen rural connectivity under PMGSY and to support local economic activity during and after construction. The party said the approvals marked a step towards resolving infrastructure deficits in the affected areas.
