The delegation planned detailed discussions on expansion of airports and air connectivity, including the international greenfield airport announced in the Union Budget, as well as national highway and road projects across the state. Specific road corridors to be reviewed include the Patna–Purnia route and the Gorakhpur–Siliguri link, and attention would be paid to stretches of NH-27 reported to be in poor condition.
The panel also intended to scrutinise maintenance arrangements for museums, the Khuda Bakhsh Library and historical sites managed by the Archaeological Survey of India such as Kumrahar, and on-site inspections were scheduled at the Bihar Museum in Patna and key heritage and pilgrimage centres in and around Gaya, Rajgir and Nalanda. The committee was scheduled to travel to Gaya on Monday evening and to hold a tourism-focused meeting the following day to discuss development at destinations including Bodh Gaya and Rajgir alongside projects announced in the Union Budget.
Members underlined the potential of tourism to generate employment and to act as a catalyst for wider economic development in Bihar, and the panel stated that it would compile observations and recommendations for submission to Parliament. Following submission of its report the relevant central departments were expected to proceed with follow up action and timelines for project implementation would be decided after detailed discussions with state and central officers. The visit was described as an opportunity to review centrally funded schemes and to seek clearer milestones for advancement of transport connectivity, tourism and cultural conservation in the state.
