Under the proposal MIDC will provide land for support structures while the companies will fund and execute construction of the foot overbridges. Two of the five firms have already agreed to proceed and secured necessary approvals, and discussions continue with three more companies for similar links. The proposed overbridges for Phase two corporate campuses will connect to MIDC Circle, Hinjawadi Circle one and Hinjawadi Circle two and are expected to serve an estimated 55,000 employees across those campuses.
Officials added that talks are also under way to extend the arrangements to stations serving Maan, Shree Shiv Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Chowk and Hinjawadi, where establishments together employ around 32,000 people. The project is presented as part of a wider effort by MIDC and PITCMRL to reduce reliance on feeder transport and allow employees to walk directly from offices to station entrances. The companies are being urged to align bridge designs with station access points and to factor in pedestrian flow at peak hours.
Urban planners and corporate mobility teams are being engaged to ensure seamless integration of the overbridges with existing circulation and road infrastructure. Implementation timelines will depend on final agreements, design clearances and construction schedules, with MIDC coordinating land allotments and approvals. If successful the model could be replicated for other industrial clusters to improve safety and commute efficiency.
