About five point five km of construction remains across three specific bottlenecks identified by MIDC engineers. The Navlakh Umbre bypass spans one point seven km and will bypass the village to prevent local congestion. Two connector sections of a total of one point five km comprising seven hundred and fifty metre links will join Phase two and Phase five, while a two point nine km Pune-Nashik highway link will replace a narrow, bottlenecked carriageway.
MIDC Regional Officer Nitin Gawali said land acquisition for the remaining stretches is in its final phase and is expected to be wrapped up within two to three weeks, which will allow final paving work to proceed. The completion of these alignments is being prioritised to ensure uninterrupted industrial operations during upcoming construction of the elevated Talegaon-Chakan-Shikrapur highway. Project managers are coordinating with local authorities to sequence work so that traffic disruption is minimised.
Industry representatives warned that pillar construction on the narrow main highway will cause severe traffic disruption, reinforcing the need for an alternative corridor. The Chakan Industries Association emphasised that the 30 km bypass will act as the primary diversion to absorb traffic spillover during the elevated highway works. In line with directives from Pune District Collector Jitendra Dudi, a majority of pothole repair work on the existing stretch was completed ahead of the August 31 deadline, improving immediate transit conditions for industrial freight.
